Ishant Sharma and R Vinay Kumar were dropped from India’s 15-man squad for the three-match One-Day International series against West Indies starting on November 21 in Kochi, following their poor performances in the seven-match series against Australia recently.

Mohit Sharma and Dhawal Kulkarni were called up in their place, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Tuesday(November 12).

Ishant and Vinay were both taken for plenty of runs by the Australian batsmen in the ODI series, eventually won by India 3-2. Ishant played the first three games then, going for 189 runs at an economy rate of 7.87, and was left out of the playing XI for the remainder of the series. Vinay, meanwhile, went for 345 runs in five matches at an economy of 7.93, with his return of 1 for 102 in the seventh ODI in Bangalore the worst figures by an Indian in ODIs. Vinay, however, picked up eight wickets in the series, the same as Ravindra Jadeja and one behind R Ashwin, who topped the table from either side with nine wickets.

Mohit made his international debut during the tour of Zimbabwe earlier this year. He’s been in decent form for Haryana in the Ranji Trophy, picking up seven wickets in two matches – against Mumbai and Vidarbha – so far. Kulkarni, meanwhile, played against Haryana for Mumbai, claiming three wickets and, while he has never represented India, was part of the Indian team for the Test tour of New Zealand in 2009.

Jadeja, who was rested from the team for the two Tests against West Indies, was included in the ODI squad, while Yuvraj Singh, who had an average series against Australia, was given another chance to prove his worth.

After the Kochi ODI, India and West Indies will play in Visakhapatnam on November 24 and Kanpur three days later.
